Some say this mark on the barrel (left photo) and extending down and on to the stock (right photo) may be a "blood" mark.
"You will notice that the handguard (right photo above) serial is off by two digits.
However, the patina matches the rest of the rifle perfectly, so it left the factory that way in early 1944."
